Signs Of A Main Sewer Issue

Signs of a main sewer Issue

Sewer drainage problems are a hassle, but they should be dealt with as swiftly as possible to minimise the problem and avoid high costs. If left unfixed, a sewer drainage issue can cause sewage to back up out of a properties drains, which in itself can be very damaging and expensive to fix.

To help prevent any damage to your property, Draincare Reactive have compiled a list of signs to be on the look out for. If the issue you are experiencing can’t be remedied easily by using a plunger etc. we advise contacting a professional.

Clogged toilets or drains

Detecting a sewer drainage issue is generally easy to spot. If the water in you drain or toilet is backing up or making bubbling noises, it tends to suggest that there is some sort of obstruction in the pipework.

It is crucial to keep in mind that the pipes in your property are connected, so if there is an obstruction it will effect more than one area. If there is a blockage in the main pipe, this will affect all of the secondary pipes that lead off from it. If the issue is in a secondary pipe, only this appliance connected to it will be affected.

Tree roots

Very often, tree roots travel deep down into the surrounding area and can subsequently crush older pipes when they reach them. Older pipes become weaker with age and can form fractures and cracks which attract the root into them. Gurgling sounds from the toilet when it has been flushed suggest that root ingress could be affecting the line. Ignoring this can lead to a complete blockage.

Release the pressure

Draincare Reactive advises not using chemicals if not absolutely necessary and instead filling your sink full of water and letting it drain. The pressure of a large sink full of water often helps dislodge any obstructions or buildup. Remind yourself to do this a few times a month.

Request a camera inspection
